The Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund And UNESCO Prove That Education Is A Cause Worth Fighting For

The easiest way to achieve any goal is to make the time to devise a detailed game plan for turning that goal into a reality. This is true for individuals who are trying to achieve goals that concern weight loss or for a student who wants to earn higher grades in their math class.

This reality is also true for governments, individuals and civil society organizations that are interested in attempting to achieve important goals that will impact the world whether these goals involve reducing the prevalence of hunger in a particular community or working to ensure that more women survive the process of birthing a child.

Spending the time to create a detailed map of how one will move from their present reality and to the positive future that they envision is always worth the time it takes. This is why the international community under the leadership of global intergovernmental organization the United Nations has taken the time to come together and to layout a detailed plan for enabling people around the world to lead lives that are healthier and that are much more equitable. The international community came together to create and launch something that is known as the sustainable development agenda which is comprised of 17 specific goals that range from protecting the environment, to preventing hunger to promoting opportunities for the advancement of women and girls in countries around the world. In the case of the United Nations agency that is known as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, improving educational opportunities for people around the world is an important priority.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is involved in promoting the achievement of the fourth Sustainable Development Goal which is concerned with ensuring that adults, adolescents and children receive a high quality education and in promoting learning for people of all ages. In particular UNESCO is largely concerned with leading collaboration between various countries on issues such as culture, education, heritage and science.

The work that UNESCO does is important because there are threats to the education of the most vulnerable populations that arise everyday. Children that live in countries that are dealing with sustained poverty or countries where there is active armed conflict can have their schooling be disrupted.

Many children have to deal with very difficult issues such as the trauma that comes from living in a country that is at war and the challenges that come with falling behind in school because their schools are no longer able to operate. Other children might come from families that are so poor that they need children to work in order for their households to survive.

While the Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund does not necessarily focus on education it has lent its support to educational efforts such as a local charter school that focuses on teaching its students a curriculum that is based in subjects such as science, technology, engineering and math.

The Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund was created by journalists Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey as way for the two men to support their local community. The fund has supported organizations that focus on advancing human rights and that work towards providing opportunities for underrepresented groups.
